Leonard's Gatorville Fair: Flush Out is a children's game developed for the iOS platform (playable on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Gatorville has an infestation problem! Players help Leonard to stop the molerats from entering Gatorville. As the molerats try to enter Gatorville via the outhouses, players slam the toilet lids on the molerats. The game features five types of molerats, each requiring a different interaction/gesture to be defeated.

The client, Sidecar Productions, approached our dev team with hopes of revamping their prior application (a set of minigames much in need of improvement). Upon review, given the state of the 4 existing minigames and the funding / time available, we opted to take the more promising minigame (a simple toilet slamming game) and rebuilding the application from the ground up; improving the game's design to include proper scoring, interaction variation, difficulty progression, effects and the flush mechanic.
responsibilities
For this game I acted as the Lead Game Designer as well as half of the programming team. I was responsible for many of the game's technical subsystems (alongside the other programmer – Tony Cheung) as well as working alongside our other designer (Carmen Chow) to flesh out design improvements.

I was also responsible for the integration of art and audio as well as adapting the art from our artist into spritesheets and developing new art as needed.
debrief
The resulting game was well received by a much appreciative client. We were able to deliver a fully playable game withing the original 6 week timeframe that was a significant improvement both technically and design-wise over the application's previous generations.

Working with Sidecar Productions was a pleasure and came to believe strongly in the strength of their property and vision.
